Great knowledge with unique food options

The food at the last place was exceptional, and the drinks options were great too. Didi was very knowledgeable about the history and culture and provided some advice on other sights to see.

Good food, good company

We had a small, fun group. The rainy weather didn’t slow us down and we enjoyed the sites and the food. Bryan was clever and knowledgeable, keeping us engaged throughout.

Not worth the money

The food was no so authentic and it was such a rush.Not worth the money.Please choose better dishes and restaurants with good ambiance.

Gion back streets and fun times

We enjoyed wandering through the back streets of Gion and Pontocho areas that we wouldn’t have known to go to on our own. We also enjoyed the food selected by our very personable guide Diogo. We were a group of 6 adults

Amazing food and culture tour!

Our guide Andres was fantastic! He shared so many memorable facts, was very engaging, knowledgeable and funny, and took us to amazing, truly local spots that we would have never found ourselves. Absolutely delicious food and drinks (so many dishes, we left so full!) and great atmosphere. Amazing experience!

Wonderful insider's views and tastes!

Maya was a wonderful guide whose appreciation of Japan and culture heightened our experience. The evening tour of the shrine was a bonus since most shrines and temples aren't open at night. Maya provided a lot of history about Gion, Geisha, Shinto, and food. The two restaurants we visited were excellent - both places we couldn't have found or ordered at on our own. Maya was very thoughtful about talking with everyone and catering to their level of interest and experience. The sake focused Izakaya was a special treat - we told the proprietor what we liked and he pulled sake from the case. Food was ample, varied, and delicious. Would highly recommend and already have!

Fight jetlag with good food and a pleasant stroll

As someone who doesn't have much experience with Japanese food, this was a nice, easy intro to trying things I would never have ordered on my own. I enjoyed the evening stroll around Gion and our guide, Bryan, was knowledgeable and funny.

Fun food tour

Overall a fun experience. Felt a little rushed, but plenty to eat and drink. Also learned a lot of fun anecdotes about small details throughout the neighborhoods. Wish the tour guide had a few recommendations for nearby places the tour group could explore together post-tour.

Good food and ambient

I like the guide provided from a foreign point of view. The food was excellent and the places visited were interesting. Good number of people in the group .

Gion at night

Gion tour was fun! Interesting trivia and excellent company. Food and drinks were delicious and unique. Atmosphere in the alley ways and izakayas were fun!

Fun tour with lots to eat.

Our guide was Joshua and he was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun! We went to two restaurants and there was more food than we could possibly eat! I would recommend this tour and guide.

Fun evening in Gion and Pontocho

The meet up place was easy to get to. The guide, Diogo, was friendly and informative and shared his knowledge of the area with us. My food allergy was accommodated with alternatives given when necessary. The group size of 6 was perfect as it meant we could go into small eateries that were hard for tourists to find. The sake or beer and plum wine included were delicious.

Great Nightlife Introduction

This was a great way to get introduced to the night life scene. We did this tour the first evening when we got to Kyoto. The group size was 6 people plus the guide, which made it nice and intimate. The begining of the tour took us through a shrine and walked us through Gion where we learned a bit about the Geisha's lifestyle. Then we weaved through the narrow alleys of Kyoto and got to have drinks and food at each spot. This tour covered a nice protion of the area and made for a grat way to interduce us to the city! Very enjoyable!

Very Excellent Tour

Our guide Diogo was very knowledgeable and witty, he gave us a brief history of when the Geisha story started in Kyoto. He took us in some back alley of the city and had the most amazing food and explained how the business works with the afterwork community. Our guide is from Portugal and spoke perfect English and it seems Japanese as well. He took us to a Shinto shrine and taught us how to cleanse ourselves and the proper way to offer a prayer. In conclusion, this was a very special tour with a very special guide. I would recommend this tour very highly.

Fantastic Gion Night Tour with Alito

The Gion night walking tour with food was a great experience. It was just the right amount of walking and eating. Our guide, Alito, was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was very delicious and seeing this old part of Kyoto at night gave it a different kind of aura and mystery. I recommend a comfortable pair of shoes and adding the beef upgrade.

5/5. Damian was an excellent guide, incredibly knowledgeable about Kyoto and beyond. Loved walking around all of the hidden streets and alleyways. This is just what I pictured before coming to visit Japan. The food was incredible, too! Would highly recommend this tour!

Fun and informative

Brian was a very professional and educated guide. We started the night at the Minamiza Theater before walking to the Yasaka Shrine. We also walked the streets for a little while before going to the first dining location. At each location and along the way, we learned a little bit about the history of the area and also the modern day tensions that exist. It was a good balance of informative and engaging for a quick tour around the area. At each dining location we then got to sample some local cuisine and drinks. I felt like I got the chance to experience and learn some things I would not have on my own, so I am very grateful I booked this tour.

Wonderful tour, fabulous food.

Wonderful tour, great guide and amazing food. Two wonderful bars/restaurants that I wouldn’t have been able to go to without the guide and fun group experience.

A good tour for eating and exploring

We had a great time on this tour. We somehow accidentally booked this tour in French, but we are English speakers. Fortunately, our guide Ferdinand was also fluent in English and was able to give us what ended up being a private tour due to our booking mistake. Ferdinand was a great guide and we had a great time. This tour involves 2 food stops and a lot of sightseeing along the way. You will get plenty of food, as well as 2 drinks, so come hungry. You’ll also get to do a decent bit of walking and exploring. I would highly recommend this if you are visiting Kyoto.

A perfect taste of Gion!

Our guide, Maya, was great! Maya's passion for all things Japanese shone through and she gave us a very informative tour as well as making it fun for all of us. The restaurants Maya took us to were very different - one restaurant which was standing only (make sure you wear comfortable shoes!) served delicious tapas style plates and the other one was tiny - more like a bar but the food was excellent and the bartender great fun. It was a brilliant way to explore the beautiful Gion district and visit places that we would not otherwise have seen. Thank you, Maya!

Great guide! Great food and sake! Worth it.

Very nice walk and some history! Andre was spectacular. He was fun and accommodating. The food was great and I loved drinking the best sake I've ever tasted. Spending time with some locals was such a highlight.

Amazing experience. Do this tour!

Wow! Diego was incredible your guide. So much knowledge and very intelligent individual. The food we had was also top quality. I think everyone should do this tour. The only thing we regret is not doing this tour at the start of Kyoto trip since we would have hit up so many different locations afterward. Thank you Diego for the great experience.

Night out in Kyoto

Had a very enjoyable night out with Andres who toured us through the Gion and Pontocho areas of Kyoto. Andres had lots of fun facts and helped us to get to know Japan and its culture a little better. Best part of the evening was visiting two small bars/ restaurants for a bite to eat and a drink. Thanks Andres!

Food and sake was delicious! Guide Didi was super informative about Japanese culture. Took us through places I wouldn’t have necessarily thought to go through.

Great eats! Fun tour

We absolutely loved this tour! We had a terrific guide and the group was small which was lovely. We went to 2 local restaurants for food and beverages. Each was very small and informal and places I never would have found on my own. We had several dishes (small plates) at each restaurant, and the food was delicious! Such a great intro to Japanese food for our first time in Japan. We also had a saki tasting at one of the restaurants, also great fun. Plenty of food! The tour part was also great. It was raining but that didn't dampen the fun one bit. I highly recommend this tour!

Amazing Tour

The tour was definitely worth it. We had spent the previous day wandering around Gion and trying some of the local food so we weren't sure how much we'd get out of the experience. Our guide blew us away with his local knowledge and introduced us to some wild foods we didn't know existed. I'd highly recommend it. Brian was a great guide!

Delicious food, fun guide

The tour was a good mix of fantastic food and sightseeing. Bryan was a very knowledgeable and engaging guide. He does multiple types of tours for the company, we even saw him at the train station with a different tour the next morning.

Diogo was an excellent and super fun tour guide. Really enjoyed the route he tailored for us, and all the stories about Kyoto both from history and real modern life. The whole experience was very well organised and food and drinks delicious. Thank you!

Memorable night of food and fun

A fantastic night . Such a wonderful guide..Lito. Knowledgeable, very amusing and we had a memorable night. Food at the end …two cafes, one a standing bar and the other a tiny out of the way sake bar…both had delicious tapas style plates that satisfied us all. A glimpse of the nightlife whilst walking , such a buzzy city. Highly recommended. You’ll never cover so much varied ground and history without a guide.

A slice of history with local cuisine

Our guide Diogo met our group of 7 early of the start time and got us going on our tour right away. He gave us some insight into the history and culture of Kyoto and more specifically, Gion, which we found to be very interesting. We walked the streets of Gion as the sun set and Diogo took us to very nice cherry blossom viewing locations and a shrine. and walked us off the beaten path to a local bar where we had some great tofu, fish, and croquettes. Diogo introduced us to umeshu, a japanese plum liquor which ended up being our favorite drink and we ended up picking up more of for ourselves after the tour. Then Diogo took us to a well hidden izakaya that had incredible sashimi and sake. The locales and stops we made during the tour were in less touristy areas and felt more like you were getting a taste of the local experience. Diogo also helped to accommodate for one of our groups food allergies and was very committed to making sure our experience was good, memorable, and fun.

Can’t beat Streets and Eats

We had a great tour with Maya and we learned a lot about Geishas (I knew nothing about Maikos). The food we had at both locations was so great-especially the sashimi and tempura. Highly recommend!

Good and drinks to local areas and a bit of history along with it

Angelito was awesome and took us to some great spots! We went to a couple places to drink and eat and also saw a couple Geisha and passed the red light district too which was a lot of fun. Would recommend for people who want to experience what it's like to be a local of Kyoto

Food and history tour

Our guide, Kevin was very friendly and provided interesting information on the history of Kyoto. We enjoyed the tiny restaurants as they were places we never would have found on our own. A very worthwhile adventure.

Loved it 🤩

Kevin is a very friendly and patient tour guide and answered many of our questions about life in Japan. He explained a lot to us during the tour and we were able to take some nice photos. The two restaurants/bars were also very well chosen. We were able to try lots of small portions and had definitely eaten and drunk more than enough at the end (definitely NO need for McDonalds afterwards). It was a great experience that we can recommend to everyone. Thank you very much for that.

Fun night

Super Walking and Food Tour!

Our guise, Ferdinand was excellent! He is funny, informative, and very knowledgeable about the area, culture, and local sites. Ferdinand speaks excellent English, Japanese, and French, and works well with customers and local businesses. The second restaurant we visited was small and intimate with a very friendly staff of two, and the food and sake was great! We highly recommend this tour!

Wonderful walking/food tour

We loved learning more about the Gion district in Kyoto before we went to our first restaurant. We loved the food at the first restaurant. We felt like one of the locals.

Great walking/food tour!

We loved the walking tour portion of our tour. We learned many cool facts from our guide Damien. The food was also very tasty at our first location. We stopped at two places. The second was a little rougher due to it being a standing bar and we were all tired from walking. But it was a wonderful tour over all and a wonderful way to experience Kyoto’s unique culture!

Took us to two restaurants which were very boutique. Only a few places. Also added his own historical information on Japan. Andre is a really good guide and knows Japan and Japan's culture. Highly recommended.

Great tour!

The tour is as written - there was a period of walking and exploring Bryan, who shared lots of great cultural details about the city, followed by food tasting. I enjoyed my time, especially when he gave us time to take photos of the beautiful cherry blossoms!

Maya is amazing!

Maya is exceptionally great. She is an amazing tour lead and manages the group very well. She has attention to details making sure her group is having fun at the same time respecting city’s rules and culture. We would definitely go back to her for another tour.

Awesome host Diogo gave us fabulous insight into Kyoto and its background as well as taking us to great eateries! Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Vegetarian Friendly Food Tour

We enjoyed the tour and our guide (I think Bryan) was funny and friendly. This was surprisingly the only food tour we could find that would accommodate vegetarians, and they did a good job serving meat-free options. There was a wide variety of snack type foods at two small and unique restaurants, and by the end we couldn't even finish everything. The first place was a sake bar so if you are a fan of sake, that would be an extra plus. You can also have soda or a beer. We learned a lot about Gion and Japan in general and also visited the temple where we got to ring the bell and make a wish/prayer. The guide asked what the group was interested in and added a few spots based on our interests. It was also nice that they sent photos (for free) afterwards.

Very pleasant evening with Lito as guide. We visited 2 small eating/drinking places where we were served very tasty local food. Lito was very engaged and positive . Recommended

Kyoto by night

Damian, our guide, was very good and would go with him again. The tour through the areas prior to the first restaurant stop was informative, the food and drinks in the first restaurant excellent, but the second stop was awful.
